Overview

This one's a classic for a reason — six nights split evenly between Russia's two most iconic cities, connected by a high-speed Sapsan train ride that's honestly part of the experience in itself. You'll spend your Moscow days inside the Kremlin walls and wandering Red Square, then head to St Petersburg for the Hermitage, Peterhof's fountains, and a canal-side boat ride if you're travelling between spring and autumn. It's a well-paced trip — most days run from mid-morning to around 9pm, with a private coach and English-speaking guide throughout, so you're never left figuring out logistics on your own.

Meals are Indian cuisine throughout the program, and accommodation is 4-star in both cities. If you're the sole traveller in a group, there's even a free single-room upgrade built in — a nice touch that's easy to miss when you're scanning through the fine print.

Highlights
What makes this tour special

  • Sapsan high-speed train — Moscow to St Petersburg in around four hours, a journey worth enjoying rather than enduring
  • The Hermitage Museum — one of the largest and oldest art museums on the planet
  • Peterhof's Grand Palace & fountains — often called Russia's answer to Versailles, and it holds up
  • Catherine's Palace & the Amber Room — a reconstruction so detailed it's hard to believe it was ever destroyed
  • Rivers & canals boat tour — see St Petersburg from the water (seasonal, mid-April through October)
  • Indian cuisine throughout — lunches and dinners handled so food is one less thing to plan around
Itinerary
Day 1

Arrival in Moscow (Dinner)

Moscow

Land in Moscow, and you'll be met and transferred straight to your hotel. Check in, settle in, and that's really it for today — a gentle start before the trip properly kicks off tomorrow.

Day 2

Moscow (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Moscow
+

Buffet breakfast, then straight into the heart of Moscow — the Kremlin's grounds and cathedrals, Red Square, and St Basil's Cathedral from the outside (its domes are honestly more striking in person than in any photo). After lunch, the afternoon covers a metro tour — Moscow's stations are worth a look purely for the architecture — along with photo stops at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and Novodevichy Convent, plus some time at GUM, the grand shopping arcade right on Red Square. Coach & guide: 10:00–21:00

Day 3

Moscow → St Petersburg (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

St Petersburg
+

Breakfast, checkout, and a transfer to the railway station for the Sapsan train to St Petersburg (scheduled 09:30–13:30, though train times can shift slightly depending on availability). Once you've arrived and had lunch, the afternoon takes you through St Petersburg's highlights — inside St Isaac's Cathedral, a photo stop at the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, the Bronze Horseman, the Spit of Vasilievsky Island, Kazan Cathedral, and a walk down Nevsky Prospect. Coach & guide: for the railway transfer in Moscow, then 13:30–21:00 in St Petersburg

Day 4

St Petersburg (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

St Petersburg

Today's centered on Peterhof — the Grand Palace and its sprawling fountain park, which genuinely earns the comparisons to Versailles. After lunch, visit the grounds of the Peter and Paul Fortress (territory only) and grab a photo with the Aurora cruiser. Between mid-April and October, the day also includes a boat ride along the city's rivers and canals — one of the better ways to see St Petersburg, honestly. Coach & guide: 10:00–21:00
