This is a twelve-day self-drive through both islands of New Zealand, and it's built for people who want to see the country properly — not just tick off a checklist. You'll start in Auckland, work your way down through the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua, hop across to the South Island, and finish with a long, scenic loop through the glaciers, Queenstown, Milford Sound, and the alpine lakes around Tekapo before heading back to Christchurch.
Because it's self-drive, there's no bus timetable dictating your day. You go at your own pace, stop where something catches your eye, and skip what doesn't interest you. A handful of days are genuinely free — no fixed plan at all — so you can layer in whatever optional experiences suit you, whether that's a helicopter ride onto a glacier or just a quiet afternoon by a lake.
